Mississippi Kite

Ictinia mississippiensis

Trail Tidbits

This small hawk breeds during the summer in the coastal plain region of Georgia and winters in South America.

They nest in colonies and both parents incubate their eggs and care for the young.

They eat mostly insects like cicadas and grasshoppers found in open woodland habitats. They also catch frogs, small snakes, and small mammals.
