Gray Fox

Urocyon cinereoargenteus

Trail Tidbits

The gray fox is the only member of the canine family that can climb a vertical tree!
They climb trees to escape predators and sometimes to forage.

This shy and secretive animal hunts at night.

They mostly eat small mammals such as rodents. They will also eat fruits, acorns, birds and eggs.

They mark their territory with a strong, musky-smelling urine.

Gray fox den in hollow logs beneath rocks or in underground burrows.

They can run 28 miles per hour for short distances.
