A young copperhead (pictured above left) was found in someone's shoe in their carport. Luckily, the copperhead's tail was seen hanging out of the shoe before an accident could occur. It was brought to Dauset Trails for relocation (pictured above right). This copperhead is about 2 months old and 14 inches long.

Note when copperheads are young, their tails have a sulphur-yellow tip. Also note the copper-colored "Hershey Kiss" or "hourglass" pattern on the side. The above pictures are of the same snake. It is amazing how small of a space they can coil their bodies into.

If you leave shoes, boots, or gloves outside on the ground, be careful before you put them on. There may be a snake camping inside!

News and Upcoming Events:

Our Horse Trails will close for firearm hunting season October 18th through January 1.

Movie Under the Stars was a big hit! Everyone had a great time and enjoyed the experience. We had about 150 attend Friday night's "Hoot" and 700 attended "Horton Hears a Who!" on Saturday evening. We plan to offer more in the future.

The last Extended Weekend Hours (when the Nature Center closes Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m.) will be "Daylight Savings" weekend November 1-2, 2008.   Afterwards, the Nature Center will close daily at 5:00 p.m.

Pumpkin Carving Party - Thursday, October 30, 2008 - $5.00 donation per participant.

 Blacksmith Demonstration - Saturday, November 1, 2008

Cane Syrup making / Pig Pull - Saturday, November 22, 2008

The Bike Trails, separate from the Nature Center, stay open after the Nature Center closes or during holidays. When we get several inches of rain, the trails need time to dry out. Using wet trails creates deep ruts and overall damages them. Help take care of our trails for future enjoyment.

Come by and stock up on souvenir gifts at the Visitor's Center! We have bluebird houses, T-shirts, sweat shirts, bucket hats, caps, travel mugs, patches, decals, acorn magnets, animal buttons, and more. Great for any occasion!
